2003 at the hour of the net, The Mask stays the most important detective
novel publisher in France, and this venerable doyenne, reference of
the kind entirely, has again of beautiful days before it...
          To manufacture a mask
The creation of a mask is as passionate as simple.
The masks can be decorative, such of the African, or playful (mask of
Halloween, of carnival) masks. All is in the detail brought to the object!
To make a mask, you will need the material next one:
          Of the plastered strip
Of the dough of wood *
          a bowl of water
A tube of vaseline to protect skin
          A low to protect hair
          Of the painting
          Of varnish
          Brushes
Various objects to decorate the mask (feathers, shellfish, cloth, etc...)

The whole material is easily in store of tinkering,
          Brico-leisure, etc...
        * I found a product named "Flour to model
(Brico-leisure Migros)." It is about a powder to mix to water that,
prepared once, turn into an easy woody mass to model. Composition: flour
of wood, glue, cellulose, plaster, agent of conservation. Once the modeled
object, he/it becomes hard and light and can be filed, sanded, nailed,
          all as wood.
Will be able to be this kind of material maybe to the http://www.creaclic.ch
          address

Stage 1: To make the size.
Start with cutting pieces of strips plastered, not too big, in order
          to really cast the face
Put the low on the head in order to cover hair.
Apply the vaseline on the face, while insisting on the eyebrows.
Take a piece of plastered strip, soak it briefly in the bowl of water
and apply it on the face while smoothing it well. Start the operation
again in order to cover the whole face, but the eyes and the tour of
          the mouth.
For a mask of carnival, you will also leave two holes for the nostrils.
For a decorative mask, you will cover the nose of plastered strip...
and you will breathe one moment by the mouth! Approximate drying time:
          10 minutes.
When plaster will be dry, detach the mask of the face finely. To arrive
there more easily, do small grimace in order to take off skin. Withdraw
the mask then and put it of side. Let dry one night...
The ready mask, let dry it some minutes. To add
other strips plastered to cover the zones that you omitted, while being
careful to not to soak your work. It makes, let dry your mask of plaster
during some hours, so that he/it hardened in depth... and go take a
good shower: oh) to withdraw the rests from plaster and the vaseline!
        Your size is ready!
For tinkerings of children, you would be able very well to satisfy you
to paint and to decorate this size to your manner. The material will
be fragile and sensitive to the humidity, but for one feast or an evening
of carnival, it will be sufficient very well! But for a stronger mask,
          see the following stage.

          Stage 2: to model a face *
          * The photos are below descended of 2 different tinkerings: an ethnic
mask and a mask of Father-noël. The first possesses some holes
for the eyes and the mouth, the second, intended to be transformed in
mask of Father-noël, has the plugged eyes and a beautiful big nose
all round. Don't wonder therefore about the differences of faces on
          these photos!
Prepare the dough of wood as indicated on the
packing. Knead in order to get a flexible mass. Apply a layer of dough
on the whole face while smoothing with the finger humid in order to
have a finished as smooth as possible. Possibly, plug the eyes with
          the dough.
With the help of balls of dough, form the features of the face: Prominent
cheekbones, nose in potato or on the contrary pointed, arcades sourcilières,
lips, etc... (here, a mask of Father-Christmas). Inspire yourselves
caricatures, drawings or photos. Exaggerate the details, be creative.
As drying (it can take 2 or 3 days, according to the thickness) the
dough becomes hard and clear. She/it can be worked as wood: sanded,
          nailed, painted, etc...
Sand the surface of the mask to return some the possible smoothest surface,
while keeping to the mind that the small shortcomings will be "the
          charm" of your mask!
Stage 3: To paint the mask
A first brunette painting layer will create the illusion of true wood
and will conceal the kids defect of the dough. Let dry before giving
          a second layer.
But you can also paint this first blank layer or in flesh-colored for
a realistic mask. Then, all is business of taste. Paint your mask according
to your fantasy or according to the use that you will make your mask.
For this first test, I added the painting however and of the very loud
          colors!
A colorless varnish layer will fix the painting and will give a finished
tidy to your mask. Finally, decorate your chief-d' .uvre of feathers,
raffia, shellfish, pearls, let's put, etc... that you will glue to the
gun to glue or to the strong glue.
And has: you manufactured a mask!
If the mask is destined to be carried, make two small holes on the sides
and attach a rubber band or a ribbon there to fix it on the face.Mask
