Male headgear of German
origin, popularized since the end of the 19th century. Rounded in shape, this
semi-rigid hat in wool felt is characterized by a central"gutter"on the top,
by a large silk grosgrain and by a hemmed edge. It is usually gray or dark in
color. It owes its name of homburg to the town of Bad Homburg in the land of
Hesse where it originated. It was during one of his many cures in this city,
during the 1890s, that the Prince of Wales, future King Edward VII, discovered
this hat. He brought back a copy We have often seen British Prime Minister
Winston Churchill wearing a homburg. The homburg enjoyed a resurgence in
popularity in the 1970s, after actor Al Pacino wore it in Francis ford Coppola's
